We were able to get our wonderful colleague Selina to answer our little questionnaire and are proud to present the newest Employee Spotlight.
Selina, please tell us what you do at travel audience.
I am the Lead Designer at travel audience, meaning I am responsible for all things visual communications related. I'm currently shaping the brand, so working with Marketing on creating a strong company identity, both internally and externally.
How does this help the travelers?
My main focus is really to visually excite and entice people, by just letting the beauty of the destinations speak for themselves. People, especially travelers, do not have time to waste (unless of course they are on Social Media, another plus for us :) ) so you really need succinct hooks.
We also need to communicate who travel audience is; revealing how we partner with only the best in the tourism industry to guarantee the most affordable, well-matched and worth while travel experiences. We’re really a unique platform, with the passion of making travelling less complicated and intimidating for all parties involved, being it travelers, hospitality groups, DMOs, etc, in all the different processes required. It’s all about helping people get the best out of their travels and experiences.
Tell us about your background.
Oh my, hm. I have really kinda explored the Visual Communications department, hihihihi. I started off as a Graphic Designer in advertising with Ogilvy in South Africa, then moved on to publications with a few companies, ending with Conde Nast CT before I moved to Berlin. I then somehow ended up as a Product Designer, pretty much art directing a group of amazing Developers, for an online ‘Magazine’ platform, which was a really fascinating experience. And finally, here I am now, in Marketing/Branding/Events for the tourism industry at travel audience.
What is your big project at travel audience? Your big challenge?
It is the creation and shaping of the brand, especially as I am the first creative we have. It can really get intense when you kinda have to start from scratch, especially internally. So, introducing the whole identity 'orientated' mentality, look, patterns, etc. to the colleagues, who then obviously have to take it out there, is very interesting, hihihi.
Why did you choose the travel industry?
Why not, hihihi. Alright, it actually picked me, like most good things in my life.
Why did you choose Berlin?
One of those crazy & stupid things we do for love.
What is your favourite travel destination?
So far, still Cape Town.
What is your travel tip / #travelhack
What is the best thing about your job?
'Paid fights' with Andreas ;) and still pushing for more conceptualising sessions. There is just so much potential here, it’s really exciting.
What is your hidden talent?
What have you not told your colleagues?
Probably not so much, I easily get carried away when in good company.
